Motorcycle Review of the Honda Valkyrie
“Honda transformed their 1500cc liquid cooled, opposed 6 touring machine into a power cruising package back in 1996 Honda fans went nuts and the resulting Valkyrie became an instant cult classic. Fast forward some 17 years after launching the first Valkyrie and Honda decided it was high time to roll out another head turning, aggressively styled power cruiser based on their newest generation Wing … using it’s steroidal 1,832cc flat 6 power plant.”

“Bigger, bolder and more outrageous than anything else on the road, the Valkyrie is a power cruiser unlike anything else. We took our biggest engine, put it in a cruiser chassis and turned it loose on the road. The result? Pure American hot rod.” -Honda
Dave Hatch and, original Valkyrie owner, Dave Fox run down Honda’s latest take on their powerfully styled power cruiser, the Valkyrie. Honda Canada pretty much forged the luxury-touring category 40 years ago with the launch of their ground breaking Gold Wing. As a result of their engineering development on the Wing, Big Red also knows a thing or two about horizontally opposed engines. When Honda transformed their 1500cc liquid cooled opposed 6 touring machine into a power cruising package back in 1996, Honda fans went nuts and the resulting Valkyrie became an instant cult classic. Seventeen years after launching the first Valkyrie Honda decided it was high time to roll out another head turning, power cruiser based on their newest generation Gold Wing. By putting the Gold Wing’s steroidal 1,832cc flat 6 power plant into the Valkyrie’s aggressively styled frame, Honda has created an imposing power cruiser designed to conquer the highways.
The latest generation Valkyrie packs a bigger engine, being 1800 rather than 1500CCs, and you can tell there’s more horsepower from the get go. Dave Fox testifies that you best hold on tight easing off the clutch into first because this bike wants to launch. Despite the size and the power, the ABS brakes are more than equipped to handle the torque behind this ample machine.
Of course, the latest Valkyrie has all the up to date technology attributed to Honda’s touring line-up, with the added benefit of retaining the comfortable cruiser stance designed to go the distance. This is a marquee motorcycle for Honda showing that, 40 years after releasing the definitive touring motorcycle, they’re still leading the way in the genre.
