2015 Honda Gold Wing Motorcycle Review

“No motorcycle has changed the concept of touring like the Honda Gold Wing. A horizontally opposed engine offering power, performance, and perfect smoothness. Shaft final drive. A chassis designed for day-long comfort. And over the last four decades, the Gold Wing has just gotten better and better, and touring riders have had it better and better too—full-coverage bodywork, bigger engines, more cylinders, better chassis, more power, integrated luggage.” Honda

At it’s inception back in 1975 as a liquid cooled 1000cc horizontally opposed 4 the Honda Gold Wing set the standard for what would become known today as the luxury touring market. It’s a motorcycle that feeds passionate group of dedicated diehard owners who just love to spend hundreds of accrued vacation days riding under the canopy of the open sky.

…heated and sheltered creating a cocoon of comfort for both rider and co-rider, which will make those long rides relaxed and all the more fun.

This latest iteration of the Gold Wing has been forty years in the making. These days, riders can rack up the kilometers wrapped in a bubble of wind-negating comfort replete with a programmable GPS, XM Stereo system, electric adjustable rear suspension, linked ABS braking, and over 150 liters of storage. You can even get it with an air bag. Honda has never stopped tweaking their flagship “halo bike” and it shows from luxury console to the 1832CC pancake six road eating machine.

At over 1800CCs this new Wing is a far cry from the original. The combined torque and transmission make for a powerfully smooth ride and at 400kg there’s definitely enough motorcycle to handle that kind of torque. The lower center of gravity, and reverse gear function make it handle well on the street and in the parking lot, relieving some of the stress of wielding such a large, powerful motorcycle.

Luxury touring is all about comfort and protection and, in this respect, it’s tough to beat this 2015 Gold Wing. As far as the saddle, it’s better than your living room chair – it’s heated and ergonomically perfected to prolong your ride. The co-rider area is also heated and sheltered creating a cocoon of comfort for both rider and co-rider, which will make those long rides relaxed and all the more fun.
